meditation retreat

nachdem ich viele tempel gesehen und mit einigen mönchen gesprochen habe, wird es zeit, ein wenig mehr "in medias res" zu gehen ...

after having visited a lot of temples, having talked with some monks, it´s time to go straight to the point...

... to learn more about buddhism, ...



...mit profis zu meditieren und von ihnen zu lernen!

... to meditate with professionals and to learn from them!


ich nutze die chance und besuche einen meditationskurs (der nur zum monatsende stattfindet!) der von den mönchen des tempels SUAN DOK gehalten wird!

i´m seizing the chance attending a meditation retreat (which only takes place by the end of each month) held by the monks of the temple SUAN DOK!

von den spenden der meditations"schüler" konnte dieses meditationshaus errichtet werden...

this meditation house was financed by the donations of former meditation "students"...

in einem solchen umfeld meditiert es sich gleich viel besser ...

in such a surrounding it´s much easier to meditate ...


... obwohl ... um 5 uhr morgens aus dem bett und dann gleich volle konzentration ... ist für einen morgenmuffel wie mich schon eine ordentliche überwindung!

... although ... getting up at 5 o´clock in the morning and right afterwards full concentration ... that´s not an easy thing for a grumpy in the morning!

nach der meditation geht´s zum frühstück ...

after meditation we´re going to have breakfast ...



...aber zuerst müssen die mönche mit essen versorgt werden!

... but first we have to give some food to the monks!





aber jetzt sind wir dran!

but now it´s our turn!




frisch gestärkt bereite ich mich auf die nächste meditations-"runde" vor!

hiking-riding-rafting

ich habe genug vom stadtleben. heute gehts aufs land ...

i´m fed up with city life. today i´m going rural ...





...mein gästehaus organisiert die typischen ausflüge zu den umliegenden dörfern...

my guesthouse organizes the typical trips to the nearby villages...




...wo die frauen (in alter tracht gekleidet - kommt bei den touristen gut an!) ...

where the women (dressed in their tradtional costumes - the tourists like it!)...




...ihre waren feilbieten!

...are offering their goods!




nebenan spielen die kinder...

next door the children are playing...




heute regnet es (ziemlich untypisch für den winter in thailand) ... und unser abenteuer-ausflug wird im wahrsten sinn des wortes zum abenteuer!

today it´s raining (that is quite untypical for thailand´s winter) ... and our adventure trip is literally going to be an adventure!

...und unser armer tour guide muss einen teilnehmer aus dem wasser fischen

...and our poor tour guide has to rescue one of the participants who fell into the water

heaven´s sake it turned out all right!

und schon sitzen gabi (aus kanada) und ich auf dem rücken eines elefanten ...

... es geht entlang des flusses auf und ab ... ehrlich, ich habe mir elefanten-reiten gemütlicher vorgestellt!

... it takes us along the river up and down ... honestly, i supposed elephant riding to be more comfortable!


wir haben uns auch bei kompo entschuldigt (wir sind ja nicht unbedingt leichtgewichte) ... ich habe einige zeit überlegt, ob ich diesen touristen-wahnsinn mitmachen soll - die neugierde hat gesiegt!

we apologized to kompo (we´re not really lightweights) ... i was considering quite a while, wether attending this kind of tourist-madness - curiosity was the winner!

und weil wir ja schon am fluss sind ...

and already being at the river...

... there the third part of the adventure is following ... bamboo rafting!

vom 4. abenteuer war in der tourbeschreibung aber nichts zu lesen - wir fahren mit einem pick-up ... das ist ja schon wieder asphaltierte unterlage, den "weg" zuvor konnte ich beim besten willen nicht fotografieren ... hatte alle hände voll zu tun, um nicht vom wagen zu fallen!

in the tour description there was nothing written about the 4th adventure - we´re riding a pick-up ... here we´re back on a sealed road, the one before i was not able to take a picture ... i got my hands full not to fall down from the car!

ANNUSAWARI SAM KASAT (3 königs denkmal - 3 kings monument)
diese drei herren (thai-lao könige, 14. jh.) werden von den thais mindestens genauso verehrt wie buddha

these three sirs (thai-lao kings, 14th century) are worshipped almost as much as buddha

alles strebt gen himmel ....

they all are aspiring towards heaven...






... aber nur himmel kann´s nun auch nicht sein ... wenn, dann zumindest mit einem coke!

... but only heaven .... if heaven then at least with a coke!

nachtmarkt auf der sog. "sonntags-flaniermeile" ... na ja, ist eher eine "stehmeile"!

ich finde doch wirklich überall süssigkeiten - die sind fast zu schön um gegessen zu werden!
