ein kleiner streifzug durch thailand und kambodscha...

a ramble through thailand and cambodia...


wer den titel dieses eintrages liest und bereits in thailand oder kambodscha gewesen ist, wird wahrscheinlich ein wenig schmunzeln ... ja, vieles ist hier same, same ... und doch auch wieder nicht!

whoever is reading the title of this post and has spent some time in thailand or cambodia probably is smiling a bit ... yeah, quite a lot is same, same ... and still it´s not!


am liebsten hörte ich "same, same" von meiner masseurin in chiang mai ... ja, die gleiche massage wie gestern ... himmlische hände, da könnte man glattt süchtig werden! und ich habe mich an den unterschiedlichsten "locations" massieren lassen - in einem tempel, im frauengefängnis, in einem wunderschönen spa, in einem von blinden geführten massagesalon, ...

my favorite "same, same" was that of my massage-lady in chiang mai ... yes, the same massage as yesterday ... heavenly hands, i could get addicted! and i got massages at very different locations - at a temple, at the womens´prison, at a beautiful spa, at a massage salon run by blind people, ...


was mich besonders berührt hat, habe ich speziell in thailand erlebt ... die menschen ehren ihre vorfahren, sie ehren ihren könig (über alles ... und das aus gutem grund ... er ist unermüdlich für seine untertanen tätig und hat besonders der armen ländlichen bevölkerung sinnvolle hilfe zukommen lassen), sie verehren buddha und versorgen die mönche ... und mit ihren täglichen opfergaben erweisen sie auch den geistwesen ihre ehrerbietung.

especially in thailand i was moved in particular ... the people honor their ancestors, they worship their king (...for a good reason ... he unremittingly cares for his people and especially the poor rural people received reasonable help), they adore buddha and care for their monks ... and with their daily oblations they pay homage to the spirits.


ja, und das essen ... same, same but different ... ich liebe die asiatische küche, das essen ist gesund, es schmeckt gut, es ist frisch zubereitet und es sieht verdammt gut aus! schon in china wurde mir bewusst, dass essen in punkto gesundheit eine hohen stellenwert hat ... von der zubereitung bis zum verzehr!

yeah, and the food ... same, same but different ... i love asian cooking, the food is healthy, it tastes delicious, it is freshly prepared and it looks damn good! already in china i realized that eating has an important health aspect ... from the preparation to the consumption!


mein aufenthalt in den karen-dörfern hat mir auch aufgezeigt, wie gastfreundschaft unterschiedlich aufgefasst werden kann ... ohne vorankündigung tauchten wir zu fünft bei den familien auf, benutzten deren küche, sanitären einrichtungen und bekamen alles nötige zum übernachten ... na, das müsste man mal bei uns ausprobieren ...

my stay at the karen villages highlighted the different values of hospitality ... without any advance notice the five of us showed up at the family´s houses, used their kitchen and sanitary facilities and got all the necessary stuff for staying over night ... wow, you should try that at home ...


die menschen in den bergdörfern thailands sind arm ... verglichen mit der ländlichen bevölkerung von kambodscha ... same, same but different ...
ich habe noch nie zuvor solche armut gesehen - und die folgen der khmer rouge greuel sind allgegenwärtig ... viele waisen- und halbwaisen, viele verstümmelte (minen-opfer) ... wohin man blickt, ein täglicher kampf ums überleben.

the hill tribes of thailand are poor ... compared with the rural people of cambodia ... same, same but different ...
never before i saw so much poverty - and the aftermath of the khmer rouge atrocities is omnipresent ... a lot of orphans and half-orphans, a lot of cripples (victims of landmines) ... whereever you´re looking at, it´s a daily struggle for survival.


transportmittel und deren effiziente nutzung ... ich habe ja schon mal darüber geschrieben ... kambodscha erhält eindeutig den ersten preis! dass die fahrzeuge nicht auf der stelle unter der last zusammenbrechen, ist mir ein rätsel ...

means of transport and their efficient use ... i think i already wrote something about it before ... cambodia receives the highest award! it´s a riddle to me that these vehicles don´t break under the load immediatly...

und nun leider ein wort zum thema umweltschutz: kambodscha versinkt im müll ... es wird alles - aber wirklich alles - vor oder (und) hinter die haustüre geworfen. wohin der blick auch fällt ... es ist schade, denn kambodscha ist ein sehr schönes land!

unfortunately a word about environvental protection:
cambodia is bogging in garbage ... everything - absolutely everything - is trashed in the front or (and) at the back of the houses. wherever you´re looking around ... it´s a pity because cambodia is such a beautiful country!
