ich sitze ja hier im kamelien-garten ... und das hier ist eine der wenigen bereits blühenden frühlings-vorboten!

...und in richtung süden ... die hauptstadt von yunnan hat ca. 4 millionen einwohner ... und ihr seht die dunstglocke, der verkehr zeigt seine spuren!

...and to the south ... the capital of yunnan has 4 million inhabitants ... und you can see the smog, that´s the result of the traffic!

kunming wird ja auch die "frühlingsstadt" genannt, da rund ums jahr annähernd die gleichen temperaturen herrschen! ja, am tag! in der nacht kühlt es ziemlich ab, es hat nicht mehr als 5° und da wird es im appartment ohne heizung schon ein wenig frisch! nachdem die wärmung von innen mittels rotwein erfolgte (kaum zu bemerken ... rote augen=roter wein!!)...

kunming is also called "the spring-city". the temperatures don´t vary much around the year! yes, during the day! but not during the nights, it´s quite chilly with temperatures around 5°C - and i can feel it in my apartment without a heating, it´s pretty cool! after an inner warming with red wine (hardly to recognize ... red eyes=red wine!!)...

...folgt der nächstlogische schritt ... ins bett - mit dicker decke und einem kleinen wärmestrahler geht das schon recht gut! bitte, man darf ja nicht vergessen, dass ich die letzten monate in sommerlichen regionen verbracht habe!

...the next logical step is ... hopping into the bed - with a thick blanket and a small heater it´s getting better and better! please, don´t forget that i spent my last months in summery areas!

..und im schatten des kleinen pagoden-gartens geht es heiss her beim spiel! das ist neben dem musizieren der (älteren) chinesen zweite lieblingsbeschäftigung!

...and in the shade of the small garden around the pagoda there´s a stormy affair at playing a game! this is, besides playing music, the second favorite occupation of the older chinese people!

ja, hier sieht man es ... die pagode (übrigens: das ist die ost pagode) geht in in den neuen gebäuden fast unter!

yes, and here you can see ... the pagoda (by the way this is the east pagoda) is getting almost unnoticed among all these new buildings!


diese armseligen hütten entlang des kanals stehen in argem kontrast zum nächsten bild .... das ich nur zehn schritte entfernt gemacht habe...

...wie gesagt, man kann in kunming mit dem nötigen kleingeld alles kaufen ... alle großen marken von merzedes bis armani sind hier vertreten!

as i told you before, if you have enough money you can buy everything in kunming ... alle the big brands set up their branches, from mercedes to armani!



auch diese frau findet hoffentlich ihre käufer ... ich bewundere diese menschen und habe großen respekt, wie sie ihr leben meistern ... das offensichtlich alles andere als ein honiglecken ist!

hopefully this woman finds her buyers, too ... i´m admiring these people and i´m holding them in high esteem, how they´re mastering their live ... which apparently is not a bed of roses!

tausende von möwen kämpfen hier lautstark um futter!
vor ca. 20 jahren haben rotschnabelige möwen kunming als ihre winterresidenz erkoren und seitdem kehren sie jedes jahr wieder...

thousands of seagulls are fighting for fodder, quite loud!
twenty years ago red-beaked seagulls decided kunming as their winter residence and since that time they come every year...

und weil ich vom vielen herumlaufen müde bin, genehmige ich mir einen köstlichen rosentee...

und nachdem ich diese art des rastens noch nicht genügend geübt habe, sodass ich es als rasten bezeichnen kann, bevorzuge ich derzeit noch stühle! ihr könnt das mal ausprobieren, wie lange es eure sehnen aushalten - in china siehst du allerorten die leute in dieser hock-position ... schaut für eine "unkundige wie mich" witzig aus, wenn polizisten an den straßenecken "hocken"!

i have not practiced enough squatting like this young man so that i could describe it as a kind of relaxation, therefore i prefer sitting on a chair! you should try to squat and watch how long your sinews will be o.k. - in china you can find people in this position pretty everywhere - it looks strange for "an ignorant person like me", if you see policemen squatting at the street corners!

geheiratet wird natürlich auch in kunming ... und immer mehr junge bräute wollen in einem weißen hochzeitskleid heiraten ... wie diese hübsche braut....

and there are weddings everywhere, of course in kunming, too .... and more and more young brides want to marry dressed in a white wedding dress... like this pretty bride...




...oder diese junge lady ... die schwarzen stiefel sind zwar ein kleiner stilbruch ... aber vielleicht auch nur für mich altmodische europäerin!

peter hat mich vom flughafen abgeholt, ist mit mir abendessen gegangen, hat mir einen "metro-ausweis" besorgt und mich schlussendlich im appartment abgesetzt ... einen besseren service kann man sich wirklich nicht wünschen!
und hanna, die gute seele, ist jederzeit zur stelle, wenn ich etwas brauche - aber ich versuche, selbständig zu sein und kämpfe mich alleine durch! angesichts meiner fehlenden chinesisch-kenntnisse und der mangelnden englisch-kenntnisse der chinesen ein durchaus lustiges und abenteuerliches unterfangen!

peter picked me up at the airport, then we had dinner, he provided a "metro-card" for me and finally he brought me to my apartment ... there´s no better service!
and hanna, my kind angel, is on the spot whenever i need her help - but i try to do everything on my own, struggling through! given my missing chinese knowledge and in view of the lack of english of the chinese this is a funny and adventurous undertaking!

mein erster eindruck ... ich kann nur die worte von fritz bestätigen, der verkehr in kunming ist unbeschreiblich; was sich da alles auf der straße bewegt - vom mercedes bis zum klapprigsten fahrrad, kreuz und quer und dazwischen ...

my first impression ... i have to confirm the descriptions of fritz, kunming´s traffic is unbelievable; from mercedes to the ricketiest bicycle, they´re moving criss-cross and in between...

...die fußgänger - und nachdem die meisten anscheinend keine verkehrsregeln kennen, kommuniziert man über die hupe und das kontinuierlich!

...the pedestrians - and due to the fact that a lot of the people don´t know any traffic rules they communicate with their signal-horns, continuously!

und auf einem motor-roller hat doch wirklich mehr als eine person platz!

and on a motor-scooter there are fitting more than one person, aren´t they!


was man mit dem fahrrad alles transportieren kann, unglaublich und doch wahr ...

what you can carry on a bicycle, it´s unbelievable but true ...

my last day in Sydney

bevor ich sydney verlasse, muss ich unbedingt noch in das opernhaus ... und ich versuche mein glück: nachdem das ballett "der nussknacker" restlos ausverkauft ist, warte ich, ob jemand karten zurückgibt ... und dieser nette herr ist mein glücksprinz: mr. bruce hoff-johnson wollte die vorstellung eigentlich mit seiner freundin sehen, die ist aber leider erkrankt ... gut für mich!

before i´m leaving sydney i have to go to the sydney opera house ... and i´m trying my luck: the ballet "the nutcracker" is absolutely sold out, therefore i´m waiting for returned tickets ... and this nice man is my talisman: mr. bruce hoff-johnson wanted to see the ballet together with his friend but unfortunately she was taken ill ... good for me!

es ist ja nicht erlaubt, im opernhaus zu fotografieren, dann aber schnell ein kleiner schnappschuss, bevor die vorstellung beginnt!
die ballett-aufführung war spitzenklasse und ich habe zum ersten mal ein wenig weihnachtsstimmung bekommen!

the ballet was awesome and for the first time i had a kind of christmas feelings!

hier hatte ich auch schon meine erste asiatische englisch-kommunikation: ich habe in einer cafeteria einen cappuccino bestellt und der nette kellner hat mich gefragt: "ho o ai" .... also ehrlich, das habe aber wirklich nicht verstanden! nach der dritten "ho o ai"-wiederholung habe ich hilfesuchend auf die speisekarte geblickt und siehe da - da stand "hot or iced"! o.k. dann bitte "ho"!

and here i had my first english communication with asian people: in a coffee-shop i ordered a cappuccino and the nice waiter asked me "ho o ai" ... honestly, i didn´t understand one word! after the waiter repeated this sentence the third time i was looking at the menu seeking for help and what did i read: "hot or iced"! o.k. then i want a "ho" coffee!

ich war beim friseur - das erste mal seit meiner abreise ... war höchstnotwendig! jetzt bin ich wieder eine zivilisierte hexe!

i was at the hairdresser´s - the first time since i´ve left austria ... it was really necessary! now i´m a civilized witch!

aber bitte, was ist denn das! nach fünf minuten regen schiesst das wasser die straße entlang!

but what´s that! after five minutes of rain the water is rushing down the road!


nachdem ich die berge liebe, muss ich natürlich die BLUE MOUNTAINS besuchen! dies sind die berühmten "3 schwestern"

and because i´m loving the mountains i have to visit the BLUE MOUNTAINS! these are the very famous "3 sisters"


ja, mir gehts gut ... die aussicht ist sensationell, die luft angenehm warm und auf den wanderwegen ist (wie immer) nichts los ...

yeah, i´m feeling good ... the view is sensational, the air warm and on the tracks there´s almost nobody (as usual)...

...und das ist einer der gründe! wieso sich quälen bergauf, bergab - wenn´s doch wirklich so einfach und bequem geht!

...and that´s one of the reasons! why toiling up and down the mountains if there´s such an comfortable and easy way of travelling!
