friday afternoon, 2 p.m., i started a hike up to twin peaks. my hostparents told me that it´s almost impossible to go by foot from our house up to the top of the mountain ... but i´m that kind of person who´s curious about the own experiences ...
die erste etappe meiner wanderung führte mich durch einige friedhöfe (super, ich liebe friedhöfe!). dies ist der jüdische friedhof von s.f., im hintergrund ist twin peaks zu erkennen - mein ziel!the first part of my hike led me through several cemeteries (excellent, i love cemeteries!). this one is the jewish cemetery, in the background you can see twin peaks - my destination!
zwei sehr alte grabsteine ... typisch für jüdische friedhöfe, sie versinken ganz einfach im erdboden - wie wenn gleichsam das letzte physische andenken ganz langsam entschwindet!im jüdischen glauben muss die totenruhe unantastbar bleiben ...
two very old gravestones ... it´s characteristic of jewish cemeteries that the gravestones sink into the soil - it seems as if the last physical memory vanishes step by step!
the jewish religion forbids any disturbing of the cemetery´s rest ...

ah, twin peaks rückt näher!yeah, twin peaks, i´m approaching!
aber, was muss ich feststellen? der anfänglich kleine pfad endet ungefähr auf halber höhe und vor mir ... scheinbar undurchdringbares gestrüpp! und ich mit kurzen hosen! na, ich möchte euch den anblick meiner zerschundenen schienbeine ersparen - ihr könnt ja martina fragen, die kann euch eine lustige geschichte über einen ikaria-ausflug erzählen!!but what is going on? the small path ends half of my way up to the top of the mountain and i´m standing in front of an apparent impenetrable scrub! and i´m wearing shorts! how my shins look like? I won´t show you a picture!

die aussicht auf daly city lässt einen die mühen sofort wieder vergessen! wie ihr seht, ist es sehr diesig und die ersten nebelbänke bereiten sich auf ihren alltäglichen angriff vor!the view over daly city lets you forget all the efforts it took you climbing up the mountain!
as you can see, it´s very hazy and the first fogbanks are preparing for their daily attack!

der sendetum "sutro tower" schaut aus dem nebel heraus, als ob er über der stadt schwebte ...sutro tower looks out of the fog, it seems as if it is hovering above the city...
der weg zurück schien anfänglich problemlos ... es ging bergab in richtung zivilisation ... hey, aber auf einmal ... ging es wieder bergauf! hab ich mir anfangs ja noch nichts gedacht, doch nachdem ich bereits den zweiten berg erreicht hatte und der weg keinerlei anstalten zeigte, endlich wieder talwärts zu führen ... und es ausserdem immer nebliger und später wurde ... habe ich wieder umgedreht und bin entlang der straße nach daly city zurückgekehrt! insgesamt war ich fünfeinhalb stunden unterwegs, uff - aber gutes training für meine ausflüge in die nationalparks! übrigens: habe die gesamte zeit keinen einzigen menschen weder gesehen noch getroffen - wozu gehen, wenn man in besitz (mindestens) eines fahrbaren untersatzes ist!at the beginning the way back seemed to be without any problems ... the trial headed down to the city ... back to civilisation! but all at once it changed its direction. at first i was not suspicious, but after reaching the second mountain and the path still didn´t turn towards the city ... besides it started to get late and foggy ...i decided to go back following the road down to daly city! altogehter i´ve been hiking for more than five hours - a good exercise in preparation for my treks through the national parks of california! by the way, i didn´t meet or see even one person all along! but if you are able to drive a car, is there any reason to go by foot?
